CONCEPT

To begin this project, I produced a generic wide based mind map of all pollutions of every kind, eventually helping me to refine my search to plastic pollution. I researched how the pollution reaches the seas and oceans, through land and air and how it affects the areas of water. After looking further into to the marine biodiversity and habitats of the five main sea areas; Coasts, Coral Reefs, Green Sea’s, the Open Ocean and the Deep Sea, I was able to discover how these habitats and animals were affected through plastic. After discovering the issues of plastic pollution, I looked in to the means of how it is distributed through the world, and that was the ocean currents. I continued my research into current and possible future solutions to the invasion of plastic pollution on our planet.

For my performance concept, I wish to focus on the issues and science behind the depositing of pollution through the transportation of the currents. This is what I wish to explore and visually explain through a dance piece visually represented through costume and interpreted by dance. I envision the dancers themselves will be silent. Sound during the performance will come from the music and narrator/ actor, the Scientist. The dance chosen to represent and visually personify the five main seas and current is the Viennese Waltz. This is due to the circular motion of the dance and fabrics when performed similarly to the satellite imagery of currents across the globe. The audience and the children will engage visually and physically and learn via performance similar to pantomime.
